The Krista Foundation Celebrates 15 Years
Young Adult Leadership Development Organization Prepares an Evening Celebration of Service, Volunteerism, and Global Citizenship

SEATTLE, WA: On March 30th, the Krista Foundation for Global Citizenship celebrates 15 years working with twenty-something young adults who have engaged in a year or more of local or global service. Join them at SALT OF THE EARTH: Celebrating the Flavors of Service, a fundraiser held at the University of Washington and featuring speakers from their successful Krista Colleague program. After developing a model for nurturing a service experience into a life of service leadership, the Krista Foundation has become a local leader in transition services and leadership development.

The Krista Foundation for Global Citizenship's Executive Director Valerie Norwood shares, "Through the last 15 years of equipping young service leaders we are more confident than ever that a service year, when nurtured, becomes a life of service leadership. That's why it's invaluable for young adults to have an opportunity for mentoring and debriefing services that help them wrestle with their experience, navigate the complexities of life they've engaged, and weave the values of service into their daily lives. With Krista Colleagues in various career fields: politics, law, business, health, education, and environmental protection to name a few; I know I would rather hire someone who has experienced a year or more of service and knows how to translate that experience into leadership."

To grow The Krista Foundation for the next 15 years, they have strengthen their services through:

  • Collaborating with local and national organizations/colleges & universities to train them in their transition and debrief service, intercultural competence, and service leadership development model.
  • Expanding outreach of their work through the Global Citizen, a publication full of articles, resources, and stories from service volunteers.

###

About The Krista Foundation for Global Citizenship: The Krista Foundation is a service transition and leadership development organization based in Seattle, WA. Founded in 1999 to honor the legacy of Krista Hunt Ausland who, as a service volunteer in Bolivia, died in a bus accident. Now, the Krista Foundation designed and implements a program to equip young adults transitioning out of service with skills to transform their service experiences into a life of service leadership. They also offer mentoring and a $1,000 Service Leadership grant to grow the capacity of each of the twenty-somethings in the Krista Colleague program.
