Meet The Colleagues
Destiny Williams
Destiny's Service Bio
I worked with Agros International, which does agricultural-based community development for communities of rural farmers in Latin America. Along with helping in their health promotor program, I recorded and wrote family histories for 25 families in the Guatemalan Highlands, and again in El Salvador. These were histories of families very affected by the long civil wars in each country. I also played on the town soccer teams, played music, and enjoyed friendships in the local village/town life.
Guatemala, El Salvador, and After
Here are a few photos of the families I worked with through Agros International from Sept. 2000 through Jan. 2002. I also added a few from after my return that seemed relevant to how I 'live the questions' of global citizenship.Destiny's Links

Listening to the Community of Tenango:
By Destiny Williams
Working in El Salvador with Agros International, I lived in a village of 25 families, in a 1 room house, with dirt/cement floor and corrugated metal walls and roof. I would spend 1 week in the fairly remote village sharing life and interviewing families, and then 1 week in San Salvador, transcribing the stories from my handheld recorder to the computer.
One day in the office in San Salvador, about 2/3 through the family interview process and 4 days immersed into typing stories, I realized I was actually beginning to envision the collective story of the villagers—how the individual stories were part of this collective story.
This long email reflection to my home community is what came out of that profound realization.
