Memorial Day Weekend Conference 2009
Location Spokane, WA
As the conference quickly approaches, we look forward to seeing as many as you as possible! Join us for a weekend to re-connect with fellow colleagues, meet new people and hear our delightful Keynote speaker Moses Pulei guide us through the theme of "Shifting Ground, Solid Ground". Our conference theme will highlight some of the major trends/shifts during the last ten years and their implications as we head into the next decade of figuring out how to live the art and science of global citizenship and ‘service as a way of life'.
The Krista Foundation will cover Krista Colleague travel/room/board for three conferences. We will also cover spouse/fiancé room and board 3 times as well (we can sometimes help with travel).
Been to more than 3? (If you aren't sure, e-mail me!) We'd still LOVE you to come & help mentor, network and encourage others on their service journey! Clearwater Lodge kindly offers an ‘at cost' rate for returning Colleague families.
*NEWish* Friday, 22nd: Since the majority of returning colleagues generally end up coming in Friday evening we are very excited to create a fun and informal time to reconnect up at Clearwater Lodge.

Monday, May 25th, No earlier than 2:30pm
Arrival: You are welcome to come up to Clearwater Lodge Friday evening, arriving 7-11pm(there will munchies, but no meals that evening), or come in early Saturday morning.
Conference concludes at 11:30am - you are welcome to return to the Hearth and wait out the traffic or stay the night. Critical: If you must leave prior to 11:00am, please let us know as transportation is carefully scheduled with airport runs and other carpools.
**IF you are driving, even if KF is not reimbursing you, PLEASE let us know your schedule as well as possible space in your car to help with transporting people during the conference!**
For The Krista Foundation to purchase your flight (if not already done):
1. Research a flight that fits within our time frame and which airport works best.
2. Email a copy of the before itinerary to firstname.lastname@example.org then we will purchase on KF Card.
3. Provide your name as it appears on your ID.
4. Email more than one option if cost and/or timing seem less than ideal.
Helpful tip: If possible (and reasonably competitive) please fly AK as we get miles on our card to help bring in more Colleagues. You can HOLD an AK itinerary & email it to us for booking.

Krista Colleague Debriefing Retreat
Time 6:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location The Hearth, Spokane, WA
Come and connect with like-spirited people. Reflect on the joys, hardships, and memorable food & community experiences from our varied service encounters. This retreat is also a carefully protected time for exploring and discerning next steps.
Led by Val Norwood, along with other guest mentors.
At the Hearth, behind Jim and Linda's.
Additional information for Krista Colleague attendees:
Here are a few important things to bring/do:
1) Please read the attached article before arriving, Service Compost by Sarah Wanless. (great for the plane ride)
2) Be prepared for SNOW! Spokane has a couple feet of snow and will have highs around 36. We will have some good free time so you may want to see if the sledding hill is in any shape for use.
3) Bring your journal or a notebook to use during guided reflection.
4) Bring journals from your time of service/transition for private reflection.
5) Bring a photo (printed) of one person that was significant to you during your season of service.
7) Album/online photo gallery - we have informal time in the afternoon and evening to share photos/stories
8) Bathing suit / extra towel for the hot tub.
9) Toiletries/warm clothes (layers)
10) Puppets available at Hearth if you want to design your own puppet show for our entertainment
Feel free to email with any questions. Also, though the impetus for the retreat is transitiong out of ‘volunteer service' we hold that term loosely as many times KC's ‘formal service' extends into vocational work/employment. The retreat will focus on debriefing the service journey (as you define it) and navigating the season of transition beyond. Together we will create space to explore how certain experiences and encounters have enriched, challenged, reshaped who we are, how we perceive the world and choose to interact with it. Perhaps most importantly, we have an opportunity to do this in the context of hearing each others journey.
